ASM International, formerly known as the American Society for Metals, is a professional organization for materials scientists and engineers working with metals. Their website defines the society as an engineering and scientific community, "led by its members, guided by the members needs and fueled by member participation," sharing information and ideas through international conferences and expositions, seminars and local chapter meetings. ASM provides several information resources, including standards and the ASM Handbooks, a series of reference books that provide data on various types of metals. These handbooks are recognized as a standard reference in the field of materials science. Examples of topics covered by the ASM handbooks are mechanical properties of metals, corrosion studies, and much more. Other publications include the Handbook of Binary Alloy Phase Diagrams (ISBN 0-87170-403-X) and the Handbook of Ternary Alloy Phase Diagrams (ISBN 0-87170-525-7), both comprehensive indexes of where alloy phase diagrams can be found in the literature. ASM also hosts numerous conferences. ASM also operates several "Materials Camps" in the summers for high school students and teachers. HACCP
|
USA |
 |
Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) is a systematic preventive approach to food safety and pharmaceutical safety that addresses physical, chemical, and biological hazards as a means of prevention rather than finished product inspection. HACCP is used in the food industry to identify potential food safety hazards, so that key actions, known as Critical Control Points (CCPs) can be taken to reduce or eliminate the risk of the hazards being realized. The system is used at all stages of food production and preparation processes including packaging, distribution, etc. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) say that their mandatory HACCP programs for juice and meat are an effective approach to food safety and protecting public health. Meat HACCP systems are regulated by the USDA, while seafood and juice are regulated by the FDA. The use of HACCP is currently voluntary in other food industries |

Stockton Port
|
USA |
California |
The Port of Stockton is a major inland deep water port in Stockton, California located on the San Joaquin River before it joins the Sacramento River to empty into Suisun Bay, eighty miles inland. The port sits on about 1,440 acres, and occupies an island in the San Joaquin Delta, and a portion of a neighborhood known as Boggs Tract. The only natural outlet for the waters of the Central Valley to pass into the sea is through the narrow Carquinez Strait, at the inland eastern extreme of San Pablo Bay. Further inland are Suisun and Grizzly Bays, arms of the Pacific Ocean deep in the Californian interior. Further inland again from these last bays is the broad California Delta, formed where the San Joaquin and Sacramento Rivers meet and cross together. This verdant triangle of land with deep black soils is at the heart of the Central Valley and stretches some fifty miles from Susuin Bay on the west to the cities of Stockton and Sacramento on the east. |

San Francisco Port
|
USA |
California |
The Port of San Francisco lies on the western edge of the San Francisco Bay near the Golden Gate. It has been called one of the three great natural harbors in the world, but it took two long centuries for navigators from Spain and England to find the anchorage originally called Yerba Buena. A port, as was said in its early days, in which all the fleets of the world could find anchorage. (Morphy) The larger waterfront area extends from the anchorage of the Golden Gate bridge through the Marina district all the way around the north and then east shore of the city of San Francisco to the city line beyond Candlestick Point. The Port of San Francisco is currently a semi-independent organization run by a five-member commission, appointed by the Mayor and approved by the Board of Supervisors. The port area under the commission's control comprises nearly eight miles of waterfront lands, commercial real estate and maritime piers from Hyde Street on the north to India Basin in the southeast. The list of landmarks under port control include Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39, the Ferry Building, AT&T Park (formerly SBC Park and Pacific Bell Park, and located next to China Basin) and Pier 70 at Potrero Point. Huge covered piers on piles jut out into San Francisco bay along much of the waterfront, bordered by the Embarcadero (San Francisco) roadway. |

The Port of New Orleans is at the center of the world's busiest port complex - Louisiana's Lower Mississippi River. Miami Port
|
USA |
Florida |
The Port contributes over $17 billion annually to the South Florida economy and helps provide direct and indirect employment for over 176,000 jobs. One of our primary goals is to promote growth in both our cruise and cargo industries in Miami-Dade County and to make sure that every port user can conduct business safely, effectively and efficiently. According to PIERS Global Intelligence Solutions, the premier source of data collection for the most comprehensive database of cargoes moving through ports in the U.S., Latin America and Asia, Miami is once again the No. 1 containerized cargo port in Florida and No. 11 in the nation. For the past two years, the Port of Miami has retained all its carriers, and in fact has added several new services to its roster. The world's largest carriers are attracted to Miami as it is anticipated to become a major player in the partial realignment of Asian trade from the U.S. West Coast to the East Coast following the 2014 Panama Canal Expansion. The Port of Miami is scheduled to bring online $1 billion in new infrastructure assets that are specifically designed for - and timed with - the Panama Canal expansion. Among the projects currently in progress are: dredging the main channel harbor to -50 feet depth to accommodate the world's largest container vessels; providing direct highway access via a tunnel for trucks carrying cargo; and building an intermodal and distribution network in cooperation with strategic partners such as the Florida East Coast Railroad (FEC). "As a result of these improvements, the Port of Miami expects to double its cargo throughput capacity in less than 15 years, " said Port Director Bill Johnson. "It is an exciting time to be in the port business in Miami, as the infrastructure investments we are making today are laying the foundation for tomorrow's job and business opportunities." |
